Background:

The basic unit of human immunoglobulin (also called antibody) is comprised of 2 identical heavy chains and 2 identical light chains linked together by disulfide bonds.  There are five types of heavy chains designated as α, δ, ε, γ, and μ, which define the class of the antibodies respectively as IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG and IgM.  There are two types of light chain, designated as: k (kappa) and (λ) lambda which are defined by the constant region on light chain.  Human kappa light chain genes are mapped to chromosome 2 and lambda light chain genes are mapped to chromosome 22.

Applications: ELISA, Immuno-blot
